9. Exploring bias and racial injustice.

Take the Implicit Association Test (IAT) from Project Implicit. Choose the Race IAT.
- Reflect upon your results. How did you feel about what you learned? Were you surprised by your results, or did they confirm things you already knew about yourself? How might these findings shape your understanding of your own biases?
Reflect upon your social circle.
- How many authentic relationships do you have with people of color? What does the makeup of your social circle say about your own exposure to diverse perspectives and experiences?
What are your ideas about interrupting implicit bias?
- How can you actively confront and interrupt implicit biases in yourself and others? What steps can you take to create an environment where bias is challenged, and diverse voices are heard and valued?
By reflecting on these questions, consider how bias and racial injustice show up in your daily interactions, relationships, and social circles. Acknowledge the influence of implicit bias on your perceptions and actions. Recognize that we all must take responsibility for interrupting these biases in our lives. Make a personal commitment to confront and challenge implicit bias whenever it arises. By increasing your awareness and fostering more inclusive relationships, you will contribute to creating a more just and equitable society.
