ACTION

Please continue to get comfortable in your vulnerability as we reflect upon and answer the following questions:

  1. What are your thoughts and feelings after reviewing the materials? What surprised you? What did you learn?
  2. Reflect upon how white supremacy is tied to language about Black hair.
  3. Explore the beauty products aisles of your regular stores. Are products segregated by race? How many products are available for “textured” or “ethnic” hair?
  4. Reflect upon your image of an “all-American beauty.” What does that person look like? What are his/her features? Reflect upon how Eurocentric standards permeate your perception of beauty. How can you challenge those beliefs?
  5. Examine the question: How do we collectively decolonize the idea that one’s natural self isn’t adequate?
  6. Hair discrimination is racial discrimination. Examine the need for federal legislation and not just state legislation.
